Knight's Gambit Vineyard Tasting Room

CHARLOTTESVILLE VA Knight’s Gambit Vineyard, located at 2218 Lake Albemarle Rd, Charlottesville, Virginia, has completed installation of a photovoltaic solar system to power their tasting room. The 23.85kW, 90-panel system is expected to produce 26,830 kWh of power and offset approximately 41,569 lb. of CO2 emissions annually. Sunlight is, of course, critical in the cultivation of grapes, and Knight’s Gambit owner Paul Summers decided to get a second benefit from the sun’s energy. This new system— the third installation on the property— adds additional capacity to the existing systems which are providing approximately 58,000 kWh of power annually. Summers’ expects to offset 100 percent of grid power used by the vineyard. “I think solar is finally catching on,” said Summers, “and I hope the incentives continue in the future. For me it’s a no brainer— the fact that I can have passive arrays of solar panels on my buildings, and on a bright sunny day like today they are really humming. The amount of energy they produce is substantial.”
