Houff Corp Recognizes Value in Solar Energy Again

Solar energy is being adopted by many large businesses across the country to help reduce operating costs. Many small and medium size businesses are also tapping into the benefits solar can bring to their operations.
Houff Corporation, an agricultural products and services company serving the Virginia counties of Rockingham, Augusta, Page, and Rockbridge, have reduced their electricity bills by converting to solar energy, with no interruption to their daily operations. Not once, but twice. Once realizing what solar energy could do for their bottom line, the owners were quick to adopt solar energy into their business model.
In 2016 Houff Corporation, contacted Altenergy to install a 234kW solar PV system for their warehouse. “Our operations require a fair amount of electrical energy. To have a major portion of that energy come from solar energy is a great cost savings for our company” says J.D Patton, Treasurer of Houff Corp. Houff decided to add solar energy to another building, after realizing the benefits of the first solar PV system, “The original project was a resounding success, so when we recently purchased another facility adjacent to our current location, we decided to install solar panels on the roof to apply the similar cost savings on this new facility.” The new 251kW solar PV system is expected to offset 100% of the new facilities energy demand.
Altenergy specializes in large, complex projects. In most cases with systems of this size, there can be some obstacles. However, “it was a breeze” says Taylor Balac, Altenergy Master Electrician. “The folks from Houff were incredibly accommodating during the installation process, providing use of a forklift, as well as a number of powered pallet jacks. This allowed us to quickly setup our safety system and begin installation.” says Balac. Taylor goes on to say, “With 7 installers on site, we were able to divide and conquer: finishing 90% of the job within 3 weeks. I could not have asked for better performance from our crew of installers and could not have received better treatment from the owners”.
“Altenergy is an excellent company to work with. I particularly appreciate the turn-key approach they take to the project, preparing all the necessary paperwork for the customer. Installation was very quick, and the final project looks great. The individuals we worked with at Altenergy were all very professional and knowledgeable.” Says J.D. Patton.
